My name is Simon McDougall Mancave Movement is a Social Enterprise a non-profit Limited Company that raises the awareness of Men's Mental Health for young men aged between 13 to 34
With the impact that the pandemic has had on our young men. It's even more important we support them for the future. They are going to be the generation that drives the recovery and the economy for years to come.
12 men per day 84 per week and over 4000 men per year commit suicide with over 75% of all suicides being male. The old male code we all sign up to when we are young is now outdated we have to break the stigma and get men talking about Mental Health as if it were an every day conversation.
Most of us have grown up with the Man Up Grow a Pair culture we are taught that showing signs of Mental Health issues is a sign of weakness. Yet the single most important thing you can do is talk and it is the bravest step of all.
You will find this site is full of useful information along with our social media accounts.
We aim to provide safe places for men to talk and openly express their feelings without judgement or fear. Shortly we will be setting up a Men's group locally here in Bognor Regis where men can meet up once a week and share with fellow men how they feel. You do not have to be diagnosed with a Mental Health illness. If you are simply looking for a male environment where you can let your hair down you will be welcomed. We will provide refreshments like tea, coffee, water and squash. However we ask that no alcohol is brought to a meeting or other substances as some members will likely be in recovery.
It is hope that other initiatives will grow out of the meeting sharing common interests like sport and other hobbies.
Mancave Movement believes that the best way to build resilience in the community is to give our young men the tools to build their confidence. We will be working in collaboration with other organisations to deliver education and awareness of Mental Health issues so that they are able to move confidently onto the next destination in their lives. These courses will be a mixture of Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Awareness, Men's health and Coping stratigies when life becomes challenging. All courses will be delivered online and in person and will be free for young men.
The Covid Pandemic has devastated our economy and it will take generations to pay back the national debt. Our current generation is the most important since World War Two because the weight and expectation on them is a burden never seen before. We have an aging population and not enough workers paying into the system as well as the debt to pay down. The UK future depends on our young people to drive the economy forward bringing to market the ideas and services that will transform our way of life.
Mancave Movement is here to support you on your journey and the challenges that you will face into the future.
Men grow when they are bonding with other males and share a common cause or objective. Struggling alone with a Mental Health challenge is tiring and it drains the whole body to the extent that daily routines become a challenge and paralyses us.
The uncertainty that this brings takes a toll on our physical health too. That is why we promote exercise and good nutrition as a solid foundation to coping and managing ourselves.
For over 30 years I have lived with depression and anxiety yet despite that I have lived a successful life and not allowed it to become a barrier to me making a success in my life. I have started up Mancave Movement to help men of the next generation to become Mentally Aware and learn to deal with the stress and challenges of day to day life.
I am now 54 years old and I grew up with the Toxic Masculinity Code where sayings like Man Up, Grow a Pair, Big Boys don't Cry, get on with were common place. I worked for many years in all male environments The Army and Construction Industry to show any mental health issues was seen as a sign of weakness
I was also a high profile local politician serving as a local Councillor for 25 years and standing for the UK Parliament three times. I held many community leadership roles and despite my mental health challenges I became a very good Public Speaker. When I am speaking I feel on fire and alive my confidence grows as does my ability to inspire empower people to take control of their lives.
My business model combines my passion for Public Speaking and breaking the taboo and stigma around men's mental health. I will be providing presentation and Public Speaking training to the business world and public sector. Once my earnings and overheads are paid we will be reinvesting in services for young men so that they can benefit from free courses to help their employment and business prospects.
I am also a qualified Coach and Mentor and will be offering the opportunity for men to talk about their issues on a one to one basis providing a safe place to open up with no judgement. I am not a medical professional and if I feel that medical prevention is needed I will signpost you to the appropriate service providers. Often the opportunity to talk openly releases a burden off your mind and allows you to see things in a different light
Being misunderstood isn’t a pretty feeling. It can leave you feeling helpless, shameful, impatient and angry, especially at the person you want to share with.
Most of us experience this quite often. This leads to a deep sense of hurt, resentment and ultimately loneliness.
Here are 3 ways to be understood by others better:
🔍 Become a “me” detective- get to know yourself better. The more you understand yourself, the more you get to present yourself and your thoughts better.
🗣️ Learn to communicate more clearly-Gather your thoughts and practice saying things in a more effective manner. This takes a lot of effort and you won’t always get it right. But hey, it’s okay. You’re human after all.
💪 Build your self-esteem up - You need to believe that you deserve to be understood hence the need for a healthy level of self-esteem.
It’s difficult to work your way around in today’s world🌎
It is very easy to doubt yourself, feel lost or unmotivated. Dealing with your inner struggles and building relationships with people around you can be a bit overwhelming, that is why everyone can benefit from working with a coach.
A life coach can help a person to recognize their strengths, develop them, and identify personal and professional goals👨💼
Although it is mostly the coachee that is in-charge of the decision-making process of his own life, the coach plays a vital role by providing resources, support and nudges as needed throughout the change process.
Being guided towards achieving a whole new level of mental empowerment is the main key benefit of a mental health coach✅
When done right, clients can have higher productivity and creativity. They can get a more positive outlook in life. They will improve their relationships with other people, and consequently open doors for many opportunities that will lead to a better and more fulfilled kind of living☺️

“Young men can find it hard to express their emotions because they need to be with the lads and have a sense of belonging. But they can have lots of issues with self-esteem and then have difficulty processing their emotions.”
According to a survey, young men aged 16-24 often self-harm by over exercising, drinking heavily, punching walls and taking drugs due to anxiety and stress 😟
500 or 24% of these young men who participated in a YouGov Poll said they have intentionally hurt themselves. A lot said they do this when they are put under pressure or when they need to cope up with stress 🤯
This data is quite worrying as rates of self-harm among young men has steadily increased since 2000.
If you know anyone possibly going through something, always offer help, or encourage them to speak with someone that can. Support is always needed 🤝
No matter what kind of life you’re living, you will inevitably encounter challenges throughout your journey towards success🚦
Although that is uncontrollable, your reaction towards those obstacles is something entirely up to you👊
You can either let the negativity consume you and give up altogether, or you can be resilient and bounce back from the adversity.
All of us have the power to develop a resilient mindset; just like a muscle, it needs to be conditioned and strengthened every single day💪
☝️ It is important to build resilience because it is the key to turning challenges into successes. But you cannot build it unless you are willing to fail.
Failure is merely a stepping stone that everyone goes through on their path to greatness. When it happens to you, it is important to understand that it is only an event, it does not define who you are as a person💯
It doesn’t matter how many times you fall. All that matters is that you get back up again and keep moving forward👣
Mate, it shouldn’t be taboo talking about your mental health and keeping it in tip-top shape.
Newsflash, It’s as important or probably more important than who won last night’s football match.
As much as you are expected to be strong & in control of everything, you should learn how to look after yourself and your mate that’s possibly going through stuff.
Grab a pint and a mate 🍻
There’s always a point where conversations get deep when beers are involved. Grab this opportunity to talk about what’s bothering you with a person you trust. It's always best to have someone listen and help you carry your burden.
Get that extra confidence boost💪
Do something you love and know you’re good at. Nothing’s more fulfilling than getting a little ego boost. Trust us, this confidence boost will make you happy.
Take a step back 🛀
When things are starting to cloud your mind, drop what you are doing and chill. Even if you think you are the strongest of them all, rest & recuperation is essential. Doing this is like hitting 2 birds with one stone, this will keep both your mental and physical health on track.
Meditation practice develops the most fundamental axis of our being.
When we step away from all the ideas, judgement, inner dialogue and mind chatter, we enter a space where we merely focus on how our mind behaves🧠
It enables us to zoom out and observe on the outside looking in.
🪞 The awareness it brings affords us a whole new perspective and through this, we get a better understanding of why we think and feel the way we do.
With this self-knowledge comes the ability to make smarter choices that leads to reduced stress, increased happiness, improved relationships, and an overall richer existence✔️
Depression becomes our master if we don't have a vision in life🙇♀️
Having a vision is of great importance since it helps make our decisions that create our lifestyle. It is a vision that provides clarity on our purpose and which direction we want to go👣

What is the vision for your life?
If you're reading this and you haven't set out your vision yet. That's alright, you still have time...But you must act now!⌚

Alternatively, if you know any young adults or students that are studying in the field
t might be difficult to believe that the star of Indiana Jones is just like me and you. Even if he’s in the limelight, he’s human too.
Harrison Ford suffers from anxiety. Public Speaking to be specific. Like a number of us, he is massively terrified of speaking in front of a big crowd. 🗣 “it’s the people I am scared of”, he said.
Getting anxious when needing to speak in front of people isn’t a rare phenomenon; but, newsflash, you can overcome it! 🌟
You need to learn how to calm yourself down, get yourself prepared and try to change your beliefs about speaking in public. If that’s still not enough, you can look for more chances to speak to get used to it or seek help from a professional.
We can give you a hand handling these anxieties. Let’s have a chat. Dealing with it might be difficult but shooting us a message is easy.
